Milk market: How long will the market remain stable? Market report from 17-11-23
Protein concentrates rising sharply; milk fat, cheese, skimmed milk powder rising, spot milk price stable.
Low milk deliveries and pre-Christmas demand are currently dominating the market. The cheese market is mainly characterised by a short supply of Gouda, while other types of cheese are readily available. Due to the seasonal demand, prices for milk fat and fresh butter are rising, although there is still enough frozen butter in stock.
And in Switzerland?
Cheese exports are causing concern, as the usual end-of-year rally seems to have failed to materialise. Fortunately, most interprofession have reduced their production for November and December. The central question is: Can Swiss cheese regain its lost market share?
To the question: How long will the milk market remain stable?
Milk production will soon increase and demand typically decreases after Christmas. The key question is: Are stocks at a low enough level to avoid price pressure in January?
Our forecast for Q1:
With a weakening economy and high inflation, we are forecasting falling demand in the first quarter, which is likely to lead to lower prices.
